Yah that's how some gallerys operate. Instead of selling your work to make a profit they rely on entry fees and we get nothing in return. $10 is low most are $25-$40 now and then you have to pay to ship and insure it too just to grace their walls. I want a gallery that will sell my work Ill gladly give them a good percentage to do so at least I benefit too. These entry fees have gotten out of hand. Most wont even accept digital files they want you to pay them to look at it AND pay to ship too. I just laugh.... Affluent US of A? 100 billion debt for Iraq yet we have no money for health care or social security? Gimme a break... -----Original Message----- From: owner-photoforum@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:owner-photoforum@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Qkano Sent: Tuesday, January 25, 2005 1:00 AM To: List for Photo/Imaging Educators - Professionals - Students Subject: RE: Landscapes of Desire - Call for Entries <<I suppose there are entry fees so I consider this spam... some galleries are charging $50 per entry. What a gimmick. $10 is reasonable at most considering how many entries they receive. Just another way to rip us artists off. >> The main reason IMO consider it SPAM is the way the entry costs are hidden. The prize amount is splashed over the emails, on the front page of the site. To find out the cost you have to download the entry form (ie: you have to be at the point os intending top submit). It might not sound much to chaps in the affluent US of A, but $10 just to look at an image on a CD sounds quite a lot to me. What fraction of submissions are likely to be accepted? Surely that info is available from earlier rounds. Mmmm. .. send me 10 dollars and an image by email. I'll publish my choice of winner and the prize will be half the total "take". That way there will be more than one winner :o)
