I use that old nose grease trick and a diffusion or
cold light enlarger. It makes it possible to eliminate most all dust specs
in prints.
I like those books by Henry Horenstein.
Black and White photography, A Basic Manual, A Technical Manual,
Beyond Basic Photography.
The skin oil like from your nose will remove
smudges and dust while not leaving any print through traces. Of course I
only do this when I can detect dust or a smudge on a negative.
Now if I could only get a decent
Photograph scanner that wouldn't add dust specs in clean
prints!!!
