Well, if you *really* get 12 bits of meaningful digitized information
(and not just noise, say, in the bottom two bits), then you've got 12
stops of meaningful exposure.  Yeah, right.  Even 10 is pretty good,
though. 

I dunno about calling it "latitude"; "capture range" is a more useful
concept, it seems to me.  "Latitude" can usefully refer to how much the
capture range exceeds the average scene, maybe, but who photographs
average scenes?  You have to worry about the actual scene in front of
you.
