It's the difference between someone who takes pictures for the sake of the images (a photographer) and someone for whom the pictures are a pureley personal "visual diary" (a snapper).

I had exactly the same with my sister some years back: I'd just shown her some of (what I thought were) my best prints from my new Epson ... all she said afterwards was  "where are the people?".  Lighting, composition, focus, timing ...  all come to nowt if there's no one in the shot she knew.

A badly blurred shot of "little johnny" beats anything we (presumtively sounding like Rosen) can produce.
