When making submissions in response to these calls for entries, I look at certain criteria. 1) Who are the judges 2) What's to gain -- money, in print publicity, winner on a poster, locale and number/types of people to view the show -- in the words of Clint Eastwood, "What's in it for me?" 3) Is this a regular group of local organization show, as in 'what's the politics for getting included?' You kind of left it open, as far as your question. But, I just withdrew from a group show because some of the criteria, without mincing words, made me sick. I.E. one of the judges said, "Anyone can judge photography, anybody can see what's good or not." As a joke, somebody submitted an Ansel Adams print from his collection, and it got such adverse criticism from these 'know nothings' that a couple of us just walked.
