Re: Zoom Lens question

Well. since the subject, and the question actually asked, was about Nikon and Sigma zoom lenses, let me take a crack at it. I have a D70 and have used Nikon all of my working life. Their lenses are obviously very good to excellent. I have seen others recommend Sigma as being almost as good for less money. That has never been my experience. I have tried and subjectively evaluated Sigma lenses many time and have never found a zoom that I thought was anywhere close to being acceptable. they have all been soft in my experience. Tokina and Tamron on the other hand have both had zoom lenses that I have used and liked a lot. Tokina pro lenses in particular have been in my bag for a long time. At least one of their lenses, a 28-70 f/2.8 ATX, beat the highly touted 35-70 f/2.8 Nikkor in my opinion. That's my 2 cents; lenses are all different and an evaluation of each lens with the option to return for refund or replacement is highly recommeded. I have no experience with Canon but think that there probably are just details to choose from between Nikon and Canon.
Especially now with digital models being introduced every 6 months or so. I have seen sports photographers that I have worked with go from Nikon to Canon and back again. It's whomever has the latest hot product.

 Hi all,

I am planning to buy a DSLR, and I am considering either the Canon or the
Nikon brand. 300D, D20 from Canon or D70 from Nikon. I have some Canon
lenses, so going into D70 will also mean some new lenses, which means I need
some reviews, and insights about both Nikon and Sigma.

I do not plan to go into high end. Can anybody point me to some websites
that review lenses? Also I would like to hear from anybody that have
hands-on experience with those brands.

Thanks for answers,
