Hi Elson, The Nikon D70, as many other digital cameras, has an internal sensor wich detects wether the photo is being taken in horizontal or vertical position. This allows to auto-rotate de photo when viewing it, so it always shows in your screen the correct way: With no rotation (when the photo is taken horizontally) and with 90 degree rotation (when the photo is taken with the camera positioned at 90º) The sensor wich allows the camera to know it is a small but simple device: A metal ball (or something similar) moves inside a small box. The device then detects where is placed the ball inside that box to know how the camera is being hold. Simple gravity! Is that small ball wich is noisy when is shaken. You can find a small explanation on this sound in the camera's manual. I'm not sure about how that small device works, maybe is the way I've explained, or maybe not, but I'm sure that noise is produced by this small some-kind-of ball moving inside a box. When I shake it horizontally, I hear something inside, like a tiny, loose screw, bumping repeatedly into something. It's audible even if your surrounding is noisy. A friend of mine in Singapore told me she hears a similar sound, when her camera is shaken vertically. There is also a website, with posts from two D70 owners who are disturbed about this phenomenon. One wrote that the sound is driving him nuts. But another friend who also owns a D70 does not have the same problem. Any comments from other proud D70 users?
