"Valuable consideration" is an essential part of a legal contract. It
can be as little as a cent. It is important.to your contract to make it
valid.

Hi Lea,
My answer is not so much legal as moral or ethical. I will do trades
sometimes if it’s a model I want to work with. If you are doing a trade
list the parameters of the trade ie prints, time + prints etc. If there
is no trade or arrangement I have seen others put pending or just zero
--0--.
Of course you do not have to give anything, if you don't wish to.
I used to use a customer information card that included a release built
in. If you are going to do that you will sometimes get resistance from
the customers. But it did often make usage and release issues easier
because the client filled it out in advance.

Subject: model release question
Many model releases I've seen say something to the effect "in exchange
for consideration received I hereby give permission..."
What I'm wondering is if I HAVE to give something in exchange for using
their image?
Situations I'm considering are a child's portrait shoot, a pet shoot or
a wedding. Is it necessary to give something away to get a model
release?
Thanks for any light you may be able to shed on this.
