The Heteropoda venatoria is a fairly common florida house spider known as Huntsman. This one is a little larger than normal at about six inches, toe to toe.

It is possible to hear a large one as it darts across a wall or ceiling in the night quiet. The bite is very painful but not dangerous.

I caught this specimen image, with flash, and the subject on a white painted wall. Except for the one "glass eye" it looks just about the way I hoped.
