Well you made me look up some of his works. I think he used much
imagination in his painting. And, I didn't see any heron chicks
either. I imagine he did have a good pair of binoculars, and in his
time there were more birds and more places to watch them as well.

I'm not arguing that nature photography is better than works of art
such as John James'. I'm saying that photography has allowed us to see
such scenes as Herons feeding their young. Not imagined, nor painted
from memory of binocular visons, but candidly shot as they go about
their bringing up of their family.

So you don't think nature photography has reaped great rewards in the
arts? I happen to think it has.

I think I get better colour in my Mallards too :-)
