On the original slide the background was very dark but real (it was backlit in full sun with a shaded shrub behind). Sadly it was before I cleaned my scanner optics and there was a lot of "blooming" from the flower into the background. Too lazy to rescan, I just set a mask around the dark background with a 5-pixel feather and thought that would be "good enough". It seems it was not, and I have to admit to myself it was a shoddy attempt. The dark background was real - the rim lighting was real. I've had a new scanner for a month and still not got it installed - so much to do ;o) Bob PS: at least my original source images remain "perfect". Take a photo with a dusty CCD/CMOS and there is no rescan ;o)
