In most cases the people doing the copying would not otherwise buy the software - much of it is way beyond most home user's pockets. Same goes for piracy from families installing legal copies of software on more than one PC or another very common form - running educational versions when not entitled .... Re home-use: amazing how Micro$oft was happy with that form of "Bribery" when it suited them. Back in the days when they were trying to drive Lotus 123 and Quatro Pro out of the market one of the main reasons "we" recommended Excel at work was because the M$ licence explicitly entitled us business users to install it at home too. (Ooops, conflict of interest). Having screwed the opposition now they are in a position to screw everybody. At least in spreadsheets there is almost nothing that can be done with the latest version that could not be done with version 5: apart from share files with the latest version!!!! Mmmmm ....
