A fixed aperture lens will have a mid aperture like f8, and will vary shutter speed. The cheapest and crudest will rely on film processing to correct exposure. There's some very sophisticated point and shoots and some very simple ones like the disposibles. The cheap ones will always automatically use flash when the exposure gets more than 2 stops under full sunlight.
