I disagree with you both. To me the white space gives a horizon to the landscape like an aerial shot showing the curvature of the earth. It would have been really cool if the model was smoking at the time and the smoke formed little clouds. Quick! Fire up Photoshop! Although I also like the starkitiness of this shot as it is.
