indeed, but what happens when you have to move the camera for and aft?
more strings and measurements...i aim in making a self-measuring system that will save time in making new strings and measurements for them. just drag the string gadget to the center of the lens cap and move on with photography....

yep...but so far i shoot outdoors

there is another method...since we are talking paintings, there is bound to be that 3-legged stand painters use around or a different version of it...my friend also uses a heavy square iron tube multi-axis adjustable one, that can be leveled etc, but the apintings were to big to hold with the 1.5 foot long holders...it require fixing some 2 yard long and rigid ones in place and that was unattainable at the time
