He shoots lot's of fast glass (50mm f1.0, 85 f1.2, 135mm f2) wide open and tilt shift (24, 45, 90) lenses to throw areas out of focus. Yeah he does some layering and some blurring but much of it is 'in camera'. His plunger cam produces very interesting images that you'd think were PS but they aren't.
