I can see why now, others find it difficult to make their comments on the review.
I also will no longer attempt to review any more of them. It's impossible to teach those that don't care to be taught. WRGill

Seems to be a bit of a contradiction here - you were teaching a lesson? Or, merely commenting?
I believe that teaching "rules" is not an effective method of teaching anything if critical thinking is expected ( an exception might be soldiers or police). Formal qualities of some pictures may not match cultural or experiential conventions. This may be because there is a tendency to only think of images as illustrations. Illustrations, to be effective, require conventions.
The difficulty with an open forum gallery is of course - how to know where to begin to critique some pictures. The preponderance of criticism here evaluates illustrative formal qualities rather than description and interpretation. This isn't so bad if the critic explains how the photographer used (or could have used) certain formal elements to express an idea rather than referencing some rule.
