There is a huge difference between the words law and rule although they can, in some contexts, be used interchangably. "The rule of thirds" Well, as a rule I find it makes sense. As a law (to be obeyed without question) it would not. Breaking rules / going against the established norms for it's own sake is no the mark of a true artist any more than adhering to them blindly is. It is every bit as predictable. stop thinking of rules as laws and the question ceases to have any meaning ... IMO.
