NOOOO Azimuthal: Angle down from zenith and angle away from north on the horizon Equatorial: Angle down for pole star and angle (In time units) away from the first point of Aries. Sextant has a sight and a semi-silvered mirror and you bring two images, one from the pole star and the other from the sighted star into coincidence and measure the angle from the scale in degrees, minutes and seconds. Used correctly with an object on the horizon you can measure your latitude. Hour angle is measured by the time after the zero at the first point of Aries that the star crosses the hairline. OK - sue me!! But then equatorial still stands methinks! :) andy
