Position Title:	Head, Department of Art
Associate/Full Professor, Tenure track, starting August 2004

The Department of Art at Texas A&M University - Commerce is pleased to
announce an opening for Head of the Department of Art beginning August 2004.
The appointment is a tenure track position, Associate/Full professor with
salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Texas A&M University
is a senior public institution with an academic enrollment of approximately 8,
000 students. Commerce is located 65 miles northeast of the Dallas-Fort Worth 
metropolitan area. The Department of Art enjoys a strong reputation both
regionally and nationally. Our alumni have compiled an exceptional record of
success and the department maintains a special relationship with many of the
leading advertising agencies and photography studios in Dallas in the
placement of interns and graduates. The Department of Art will be moving into
a newly renovated building that will house the Studio Arts programs starting 
in the spring of 2004. There will be representatives at the CAA Annual
Conference in February.

Description: Nine-month appointment, summer contract available. 
Responsibilities split between administration, teaching, and 
creative/scholarly research. Head administers 9 full-time faculty, 10-14
adjuncts, 2 staff. Head oversees, coordinates and supports five undergraduate
curriculum areas: Fine Arts, Photography, Communication Arts including the
state's first BFA degree in New Media, Art History, and Art Education; and the
Graduate Program.

Administrative Responsibilities: Facilities management including overseeing
the Communication Arts program located in Dallas, fiscal management, course
scheduling, curriculum development, evaluation of faculty, promoting faculty
development, recruitment, advisement, fundraising, alumni relations.

Teaching Responsibilities: Determined by Department's programmatic needs and
the Head's interests and expertise. Participation in the Graduate program is
required.

Qualifications: Terminal degree (MFA / PhD). Administrative experience in
higher education. University level teaching experience.
