I can't tell if your printer is not doing something right or you are complaining about the pigment/ dye differences.  Make  sure your black is (0, 0,0). You should get a decent black with the Durabright ink but pigments lie on top of the paper and give a dull sheen as opposed to dye ink which goes below the surface of the paper and you get the high gloss effect from the paper's surface wth dye blacks..
