Although not for the faint of heart, the most
effective way to increase emulsion sensitivity is through a process called
hypersensitizing. You are in affect gaining ISOs in the thousands and
losing very little contrast. Development times remain almost the same
as well. Fog is also neglegible.
Hypering is the act of purging the film's emulsion
of oxygen and moisture. Using a baking (not heat but pressure) process on
the film before exposure with hydrogen, and as you might expect, would
require the use of pressure and light tight storage unit, some tubing, a
pressure gauge and an E-cylinder of Hydrogen.

is now being surpassed by CCDs, thousands of amatuer astronomers world wide
still use the hypering technique.
