I use the D1 too and I can attest to it's unreliability. Maybe it's just a wee bit more complex than film... It does not hold up to 'professional' use as well as the older film cameras... Hell, it doesn't hold up as much as the S2 does. I'm not suggesting anyone drop the S2 though. That said, I would dread getting the F5 repaired...
