I don't know about the UK, but over here in Germany, usually the household insurance will cover some of the damage, - dedicated photo insurances that cover the full replacement value seem to be quite expensive. Also, there seem to be quite complicated terms - depending on the way your equipment was damaged or stolen. If I could get a comprehensive insurance for all my gear that only costs 26 pounds, I'd immediately grab the opportunity, but I guess the real costs would be much higher. Some questions to consider: how much insurance coverage do you already have (household, travel...)? Would the insurance company pay the full price of replacing your equipment? Would they pay up, if you just drop your lens or if your camera gotoaked in water? What documentation would you need to figure out the value (receipt? quotes from other shops? How about models that are not manufactured any longer?) and as evidence of the loss (I imagine getting a police report in English can be quite a hassle in some countries especially if the authorities there are trying to downplay the local crime rate). Personally, I only got as far as collecting some offers from German insurance companies and reading the details, - and then decided to just stick to normal safety measures like putting my camera in the hotel safe on trips... I don't know if they cover non-UK residents. No recommendations though - I'm not in the UK - but I wish there was a specialist her in Oz. My insurance company simply can't cope with the idea that I don't take it all with me every time I go anywhere (It's not a car, dude!) AndrewF
