Held since 1970, PhotoHistory is the longest-running series in the world. This September 19-21, seventeen presentations will cover broad subjects such as "Humor in Daguerreotypes" and more specialized ones like "Traveling on the Nile: Photographic Expedition, 1881-1882" and "Zeiss in the USA," as well as an explanation from 30 photo historians on why they chose this subject for their career. Other topics include new findings from the Fox Talbot correspondence in Lacock Abbey, Deardorff cameras, "Re-Creating Bayard's three processes", "Filmless (digital) Photography", "The Business of Photography" in the nineteenth century, "The Art of The Album," and a look at the Brownie camera's inventor, Frank A. Brownell, presented by his grandson. Participants will tour the Eastman House Museum, Eastman's mansion, and the unparalleled collections of photographs and cameras. Come experience the charm and nostalgia of a working Tent Camera Obscura in the gardens! The weekend begins with a reception, Friday evening 9/19, continues with the full Saturday of lectures 9/20 (detail attached), and concludes with the Sunday 9/21 Photo Antique Show and Sale! Before or after the symposium, tour Upstate New York, from Niagara Falls through the Finger Lakes region where beautiful lakeside vistas and distinguished wineries are an hour's drive from Rochester.
