I've been in one of my regularly scheduled bouts of depression lately and I was considering giving up photography. I'm not a pro so its not feeding my kids and its really just using up money. So I was wondering if there is some reason, of which I'm not totally aware, to take photos.
Personally, before I started making a living at it (which frankly has taken some of the fun out of it...., not all, but some), spending time taking photos, having people tell me how good they are, and the quiet time alone in the darkroom brought me a great feeling.

Getting a photo published, or showing off your work and getting praise for it strokes the ego and brings a smile to you face. I was on such an emotional high the other day when I took two roller hockey photos of two brothers from two different games and stitched them together to look like they were playing against each other. I was so proud of that and all those around me were amazed at the digital witchcraft I was able to pull off. When I put smiles on other peoples faces with my photos, it makes me feel great.

When I'm stressed out, nothing is as relaxing as making some prints in the darkroom.

Happy Holidays,
Rob
