In the Arctic I gave up on the electronic gear and relied on non-battery-powered equipment and had no problems.
About 8 months ago I saw some guys at the airport here heading for the Arctic for a Polar trek (they made it too). One of them had an Exacta Varex :)
This January I'll be more concerned with dust, fires and flies.
