There's been a couple of corrective responses to this comment, but I would 
add that it results from a fundamental misnomer in Photoshop (and, 
consequently, most other image programs.)  The dpi (or ppi) once an image 
has been scanned represent an *instruction* to a printer, not any inherent 
characteristic of the file as displayed.  I never downsample in resolution 
for screen display, and as a result, typically have either 4000 or 1000 dpi 
files.   A 600x400 file at 72dpi and a 600x400 file at 4000dpi are 
identical from a file size and display perspective.

It's better to forget about 72dpi, 96dpi, and any other dpi setting when 
targeting screen output.
