Epson 2450. Just under USD400 at B&H. Got one a couple weeks ago to do MF scanning. Reviews (Google will take you to many) suggested that if produces very usable MF scans. I'm not so sure. So far, my scans have been soft and lacking in detail and contrast. It's taken a tremendous amount of fiddling in PS (sharpening in particular) to produce a decent print no matter how I set the scanning software. All that extra information in a MF neg compared to 35mm? Gone. Scanning software is more than adequate. Problem is likely the optical limitations of a flatbed scanner. I get a much better looking print (easily up to 11x14), with much more detail, from a 35mm neg or chrome scanned with my little old Minolta Dual Scan II. Seems to me that the combination of MF and the 2450 is a big step backward from 35mm and a film scanner. I'll be interested to hear what others think about the Epson. --John ===== J.
