You didn't say anything about NUMERIC before. The code you posted thinks it is working with a FLOAT8 datum, which is just about entirely unlike NUMERIC. If you are trying to assign that to a table column that's declared as NUMERIC, then that type mismatch is exactly your problem. regards, tom lane
