You are mixing instructions. Do:

Server [localhost]:

Database [postgres]:

Port [5432]:

Username [postgres]:

where you just hit Enter after each prompt above. The [parameter]s are default values and I would just accept them for now. Once you get through the prompts it will open a terminal with psql loaded.
