Yep, that looks like a mess. If you compile without -lcrypto, does it work? If you modify Makefile.global and remove -lcrypto: LIBS = -lssl -lcrypto -lz -lreadline -ltermcap -lgetopt -lcompat -lipc -ldl -lm -lutil does it work? It might, based on those warnings.
