Actually no,

The runs were at least an 24 hours apart.

Running the query standalone was quite interesting.  There's a lot of
disk output:

Also it runs a lot faster by itself, so I am thinking there is some query early on that is 
really fragmenting the table.  Here's the whole script:

As you can see there is nothing really accessing the shawns_data table before the query in question.
I have also allocated 380 Megs of RAM to any virtual process, I can't see where any of these tables
could take up this much RAM.  Here is my postgresql.conf:
