Im currently recruiting for a PostgreSQL DBA based in Isle of Man, UK, with my leading client.

I did advertise a similar role before, but currently they need someone to start soon and with authorisation to work in the UK.

As the PostgreSQL DBA, you will be responsible for maintaining our client’s databases and, together with their existing product teams, optimise the usage of them. The product relies heavily on a highly performant database, which the DBA will be responsible for ensuring is always running optimally. You will also be required to maintain the back-up and DR strategy for these databases and work closely with their data team based in Sweden.

 

As a PostgreSQL DBA you will be responsible for:

• Maintaining existing PostgreSQL databases, including backups, upgrades and monitoring
• Assisting developers with designing data models, optimising SQL queries and debugging lock congestions and deadlocks
• Assisting design and implementation of future database environments
• Providing technical expertise across the product portfolio, covering both software deployment and support
• Actively engaging  and building relationships with operators, development teams and third-party providers
• Providing ongoing automation and monitoring solutions

 

Technical Skillset Required:

• A minimum 3 years of professional work experience with PostgreSQL database maintenance, administration and automation
• Experience optimising SQL queries and data models for performance and concurrency
• Low level Linux system administration knowledge
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to self-direct and prioritise
• A team player who enjoys working in a collaborative and cutting-edge environment

Desirable skills:

Ideally exposure to some of the following technologies:

Docker Open LDAP Kerberos Bind Apache Tomcat Nagios Ansible
