Our environment consists mostly of very high velocity large scale OLTP using PostgreSQL, Redis, and memcached, with some Cassandra, ElasticSearch and Redshift thrown in just to keep things interesting. The successful candidate will be responsible for one of the largest OLTP-oriented PostgreSQL systems in the world.
We’re deeply rooted in open-source: We've hired several well-known members of the open-source community, open-sourced several of our own internal systems, and contribute regularly to the projects we use.
Linux experience is required. PostgreSQL experience is highly desirable. Responsibilities:
- Be a go-to expert for all things data on a team of go-to expert DBAs
- Own database performance, security and reliability
- Evolve the data architecture for rampant scalability
- Develop tools and techniques so our database uptime has the reliability of gravity
- Participate in creating the long term data growth strategy
- Work side by side with senior developers to build and maintain a scalable, reliable and robust database environment
- Monitor and optimize queries, query patterns, indexes, and functions
- Optimize DB vs. network/OS/file system interactions
- Develop and maintain new database APIs
- Develop and maintain the database DevOps environment
- Develop and maintain database monitoring, alerting and reporting systems
- Automate data retention, data mining, and maintenance tasks
- Provide 24x7 escalated on-call support on a pager rotation
Minimum Qualifications:
- A degree from an accredited university OR equivalent working experience
- Database administration experience with at least one SQL and one NoSQL system
- Experience working with UNIX/Linux
- Experience working with OLTP systems
- Ability to write advanced SQL queries
- Experience developing stored procedures
- Experience with operations-related database tasks, such as monitoring, performance tuning, backup, and recovery
- Experience with high-availability/zero-downtime database management
- Ability to program in one or more of the following languages: C, C++, Go, PHP, Python, Ruby, Perl, Java
- Knowledge of BASH scripting
What We'd Like To See:
- A strong understanding of clustering methodologies and optimizations
- Experience as a developer, an operations engineer and a DBA
- Experience with PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL or DB2
- Experience with Redshift or Hadoop
