Hi,

Instructure is looking to hire a full-time DBA. We've been making waves
in the higher education space for the last few years by selling the
first LMS which doesn't make teachers and students angry to use (they
actually think it's pretty cool), and now we're doing the same in the
K-12 and corporate markets. In other words, people love us and we're
growing. Fast. Our future is bright, but we need more than shades to get
there. That's where you come in.

We need somebody who can:
- Explain why databases are one of the most difficult layers of the
stack to work with, and how to overcome their special challenges.
- Comfortably work in a SQL prompt on production systems.
- Thrive while working autonomously.
- Be a point of contact for questions, both from technical engineers and
less technical members of the company.
- Be on top of problems before they become problems.
- Be part of an on-call team.
- Have the knowledge to respond to database problems at 3am.
- Be able to automate stuff so that there aren't database problems at
  3am.

The ideal candidate will have a strong working knowledge of:
- Linux
- Ruby programming and shell scripting
- Amazon Web Services
- PostgreSQL (preferably), or some other ACID-compliant SQL database
- Cassandra, or some other NoSQL database
- pgBouncer, or some other form of database pooling
- Ansible, or some other form of config management
- Resource monitoring and alerting
- Automation
- Performance tuning
- No fear of learning The New Hotness, and no inclination to throw the
  baby out with the bathwater

Some of what we offer, besides a real chance to be part of helping
people learn more efficiently, and competitive pay to work on
technologies you love with the tools of your choice, is:
- A relaxed work environment. We care about our employees, not how they
  dress.
- An open, collaborative work environment that treats you like an adult.
If you see something you don’t like, rock the boat. Challenging
  ourselves make us stronger.
- An awesome team of talent and diverse experience to learn from.
- Paid time off. A burned out employee helps nobody.
- 100% employer-paid benefits for you and your qualified dependents.
- A fully stocked breakroom, with popcorn and cookies both made
- frequently.
- Relocation assistance.

Speaking of relocation assistance, Instructure is located in Salt Lake
City, and we have branches in Seattle and Chicago. Work from any of
those fabulous locations, or, if you're a proven super star, remote work
is a possibility we are open to as well. At this time, we are only
looking for US citizens living stateside.

If you're interested in the position, please apply using this form:
