Works fine for me:

CREATE TABLE laurenz.test(id integer);

DO $$DECLARE
   t laurenz.test.id%TYPE;
BEGIN
   t := 1;
END;$$;

You should probably share the rest of your code + the exact error messages
so we can spot the error.
