VT420 terminals

Hello everyone. I have recently install RedHat 8 on a machine, but I console in through a VT terminal instead of keyboard and monitor.
It's a VT420, but I emulate a VT100. However, I'm having a few problems that I think are related to PAM. I am able to log in as root and normal users, but the command prompt doubles after every command (even no commands at all). For instance:

[root@localhost mydir]#<enter>
[root@localhost mydir]#
[root@localhost mydir]#[]

or

[root@localhost mydir]#ls
testfile
[root@localhost mydir]#
[root@localhost mydir]#[]

the location of "[]" is where my cursor is after I hit <enter> (first example) or issue a command, ie "ls".

Another problem is with root alone. I can create files, but I cannot delete them. I've tried deleting file that root owned, and normal users owned, but nothing....
