Are you sure that its mod_auth_pam? All crashes I've seen so far we're
related to some module in the PAM-stack crashing, usually an uncommon
module like pam_mysql.

Please try tracing the apache process (you can start the httpd with
option '-X' to prevent if from forking) and look at the results to
find out exactly where the segfault is happening.
