Dear Friend,
That’s how the Vice President summed up the ongoing effort by many in Washington to scare America’s seniors with myths about what reform would mean for their health care benefits. On Wednesday, he spoke to seniors in Maryland to set the record straight about how the President’s plan to reform health care would affect Medicare.

Now I know web videos may not always be the best way to connect with our older parents and grandparents. Sometimes a simple phone call is the best way to get a message across.
A handy resource for that conversation is the recent report put out by the Department of Health and Human Services that documents all of the ways reform will help seniors, including details about:
- Preserving and strengthening Medicare
- Cutting high prescription drug costs
- Making preventive services free
- Ending overpayments to private insurance companies that cost all Medicare beneficiaries
- Improving quality and patient safety
- Making long term care services more affordable
You might have heard talk about the Medicare Advantage program specifically — the report covers that, explaining how overpayments being made to insurance companies hurt rather than help Medicare beneficiaries. The entire report can be found here.
As someone who managed Medicare for President Clinton and now leads the White House’s Office of Health Reform, I know how important Medicare is to President Obama, Vice President Biden and our nation’s ability to deliver quality and affordable health care.
