NNTPC: bugs and features...

Hi,

I've been playing with nntpcache for about a week now - with version
1.0.1, because I didn't know any better - can the ftp.nntpcache.org
site either be fixed or aliased to suburbia.net?

Anyway, these problems appear to remain in version 1.0.3...

1) typo in list.c:

*** list.c.kp   Sun Feb 23 03:42:48 1997
--- list.c      Thu Feb 27 12:07:11 1997
***************
*** 511,515 ****
                case l_active_times:
                        if (n->creation_time && n->creator)
!                               emitf ("%s %lu %s\r\n", n->group, &n->creation_time, n->creator);
                        break;
                case l_xgtitle:
--- 511,515 ----
                case l_active_times:
                        if (n->creation_time && n->creator)
!                               emitf ("%s %lu %s\r\n", n->group, n->creation_time, n->creator);
                        break;
                case l_xgtitle:

2) handling dead servers:

 nntpcache should cache the active and active.times files in case
a server goes down. It should also try reconnecting to a server
when a reader asks for a group on the downed server.

I lost 99% of my .newsrc because my main feed went down last night.
While it was down, the active list only contained my local groups.
When it came back up, nntpcache did not seem to be talking to it,
and I had to restart nntpcache.

3) vague logging:

Feb 26 04:17:30 scarlet nntpcached-update[24489]: sockets.c:256:Resource temporarily unavailable: saw more than one '\r'
Feb 26 12:39:26 scarlet nntpcached[24766]: nntpcache.c:180:Resource temporarily unavailable: client disconnected before QUIT ACK
Feb 26 12:53:31 scarlet nntpcached[24767]: nntpcache.c:989:Resource temporarily unavailable: client disconnected before QUIT
Feb 26 18:42:49 scarlet nntpcached-update[24977]: sockets.c:172:Resource temporarily unavailable: fd too high or low (-1 vs 266)

What do these errors actually mean? Are they bad? Am I losing articles?

Also, does anyone have patches or whatever for inn's log reader to recognise
nntpcache's messages?

All the best,

Duncan Sinclair.
