I've no idea.  Did you look at list.c to see if the patch was correctly
applied? Did nntpcache-update actuall suceed in merging those files? Was there
any error messages during the rebuild?

And it shouldn't be possible for nntpcache to rebuild on every connection, it
must delay for at least as long as minUpdateDelay in your config file.
