On Solaris 7, this leads to other problems:

ar cru libproff.a list.o pattern.o ptime.o setproctitle.o str.o utils.o vsnprintf.o

Undefined                       first referenced
 symbol                             in file
warnx                               list_test.o

collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
