* compat: some years ago libproff added a strcasestr()
function. recent versions of glibc added this
function to their includes causing conflict.
this was predicted, but the auto-detect code
did not handle all eventualities, causing build
failures under some versions of linux
* bugfix: due to extreme bogosities in openlog()/closelog()
implementations (e.g linux) port 119 despite
being bound by nntpcache, was closed by syslog().
This was reported as fixed in 2.4.0b4, but such
reports were somewhat premature due to the
sporadic nature of the bug on nntpcache.org
development machines.
