It hasn't done that recently...  What it does do, however, is close the
connection (without quit) if you tell it to go to a new message before the
last one has finished downloading.  They consider this a feature in the
sense that the user shouldn't be stuck downloading a huge message (makes it
harder for users to go through alt.binaries.pictures.erotica :-)

Forking off a new process is much more expensive for INN than nntpcache so I
suspect that it isn't nearly as much of an issue.
