Thanks for your advices, I’ve just found the CentOS 6.x release is with 2.x Linux kernel. So I decide to compile version 2.6.11 kernel on a CentOS 6.x VM. It can also offers me a desktop. That’s pretty attractive:)

Of course one of the most important reasons is that I am reading 《UNDERSTANDING THE LINUX KERNEL》 :)  And it’s for 2.6.11 version. I am thinking about build a environment to practice.

The problem is the version of Linux.  2.6.11 probably won't build with gcc 8.

Why are you trying to build 2.6.11 if you have 4.16 available? That dates to June 2005,
and is only of interest to software archaeologists.
