I admit confusion.  The content of what?  And read it from where? Userspace?

int fd = open ("/dev/iio:whatever",yadda yadda);
int rc = read(fd, &buffer, sizeof(buffer);

Same as reading any other device.

If you mean something else, you'll have to explain..
