We faced issues (frequent disconnects) with this driver in the 64-bit version of ubuntu. Switching to 32-bit helped and the disconnect issue has become very rare. Another friend of mine was using the 'linux-backporst-modules' package (from apt) to work-around this issue...but that too broke after an update (then he had to remove this package).
