But note that as you are stuck with such an old kernel, the only one that can support you is the provider of that kernel (i.e. the company keeping you at that version.) The community can't support older kernels like this at all. Why isn't the patches that is needed to support this hardware already upstream in the main kernel.org kernel? Do you have a pointer to them anywhere so that the community might be able to get them merged properly so you don't have to worry about this type of issue in the future?
