By tampering, you mean "without inserting any kernel module or doing
any kernel patching+recompilation on host"? If yes, you have many
options. AFAIK:

a. use User Mode Linux in SKAS 0 mode

b. use Qemu in full system emulation without kqemu or KVM module.
Bochs can do pretty much the same too.
